Preview: Tottenham Vs Eintracht Frankfurt

City had to settle for a point against the Bees despite having a two-goal advantage until the 80th minute.

The penultimate clash of Matchweek 22 of the Premier League 2024-25 fixtures takes us to Portman Road where Ipswich Town are set to host Manchester City.

Ipswich Town FC, currently placed 18th in the Premier League standings, have emerged as one of the competition’s most intriguing underdog stories. Despite their position, the newly promoted side have showcased remarkable resilience, securing victories against heavyweights like Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, while also giving Manchester United a tough challenge. Their ability to punch above their weight has made them a team to watch.

As they prepare to host Manchester City, Ipswich will aim to stage another stunning upset. Although they are coming off a loss to Brighton, the team remains determined to capitalize on their home advantage and regain momentum. Facing a formidable City side, Ipswich will look to replicate their giant-killing performances and keep their survival hopes alive.

Manchester City find themselves in a challenging position after dropping crucial points in their recent 2-2 draw against Brentford. Despite leading 2-0 until the 80th minute, City’s defensive lapse allowed Brentford to score twice in quick succession, forcing them to settle for a draw. This setback has made their quest to retain Premier League supremacy increasingly difficult, casting doubt on their title defence.

However, with the unpredictability of the English Premier League, Manchester City remain hopeful. Determined to bounce back, they are focusing on securing maximum points in every remaining fixture to re-establish themselves as strong contenders for the championship. Pep Guardiola’s men know that a flawless run could turn the tide in their favour in this fiercely competitive race.

About UEFA Europa League:

History

The UEFA Europa League (previously known as the UEFA Cup), abbreviated as UEL, is an annual football club competition organised since 1971 by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for eligible European football clubs. It is the second-tier competition of European club football, ranking below the UEFA Champions League and above the UEFA Conference League.

Introduced in 1971 as the UEFA Cup, it replaced the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. The UEFA Cup was the third-tier European club competition from 1971 to 1999 before the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was discontinued, and it is still often referred to as the "C3" in reference to this.[3] Clubs qualify for the competition based on their performance in their national leagues and cup competitions.

In 1999, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was merged with the UEFA Cup and discontinued as a separate competition. From the 2004–05 season a group stage was added before the knockout phase. The competition took on its current name in 2009, following a change in format. The 2009 re-branding included a merge with the UEFA Intertoto Cup, producing an enlarged competition format, with an expanded group stage and a change in qualifying criteria. The winner of the UEFA Europa League qualifies for the UEFA Super Cup, for the following season's UEFA Champions League since the 2014–15 season, entering at the group stage, as well as for the UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge — a friendly cup against the winners of the CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana — since 2023. In the 2024–25 season, the group stage was replaced with an expanded league phase.

Spanish clubs have the highest number of victories (14 wins), followed by teams from Italy (10 wins) and England (9 wins). The title has been won by 30 clubs, 14 of which have won it more than once. The most successful club in the competition is Sevilla, with seven titles. Colombian striker Radamel Falcao holds the record of most goals (17) scored in a single season of the tournament.
